Troop 577 Leadership Position Eligibility
- Active & registered in this troop for at least 4 preceeding months.
- Able to attend at least 50% of all troop meetings & campouts.
- Willing to serve for six months & is First Class or above.
- Agrees to attend Troop Leadership Training & work with the other leaders.
- Turned in his signed Leadership Commitment Form at least 1 week before the election. This indicates that the scout is eligible & willing to serve.
Senior Patrol Leader & Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Qualifications:
- Registered Scout with the rank of Star or above.
- Prior experience as Patrol Leader or Troop Guide for at least 6 months.
- Has attended or will complete Golden Acorn training during term.
- May serve a maximum of one year total as Senior Patrol Leader and/or Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in this troop.
- Agrees to attend Patrol Leader Council (PLC) meetings.
Patrol Leader Qualifications:
- Registered Scout with the rank of First Class or above.
- Prior experience for 6 months in any troop or patrol leadership position.
- Agrees to attend PLC meetings & represent his patrol.
Assistant Patrol Leader Qualifications:
- Registered Scout with the rank of First Class or Star.
- Has attended or will attend Oak Leaf Training during term.
- Has not served in troop leadership positions for more than one year.
Each registered scout present at the election meeting will cast his vote by secret ballot to elect the Senior Patrol Leader from those eligible & willing to serve. Next, each registered scout will cast his vote by secret ballot to elect the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader from those eligible & willing to serve.
Then the regular patrols will elect, by secret ballot, their Patrol Leader & Assistant Patrol Leader from those eligible & willing to serve. (A new-scout patrol, consisting of scouts with less than 1 year as a Boy Scout & rank below First Class, is led by a Troop Guide selected by the Scoutmaster.)
If there is a tie in any election, there will be a run-off election between the tied candidates. If any election is deadlocked, meaning there is no change in tied candidates after two ballots, then the Scoutmaster will cast the deciding vote.
The new SPL will appoint the Scribe, Quartermaster, Librarian, & Historian with the approval of the Scoutmaster. The Scoutmaster may appoint the leadership positions of Chaplain Aide, Bugler, Troop Guide, Instructor, Den Chief, Order of the Arrow Representative, & Junior Assistant Scoutmaster Representative. Some of these positions have additional requirements. All scout leadership positions will be announced at the troop meeting one week after the election.
